Year 8 HPV Vaccine – Friday 24th February 2023

Dear Parent/Carer

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for boys and girls

The HPV vaccine that protects against several types of cancer is being offered to your child at school. To get the best protection, two doses are required. The second injection will be usually offered six to 24 months after the first. The school will let you know when the second dose will be given.

These vaccinations will be taking place at Bristol Brunel Academy on Friday 24th February 2023.

The HPV vaccine helps protect your child against the human papillomavirus (HPV) virus, this virus increases the risk of developing some cancers later in life, such as

  • Cervical cancer
  • Some mouth and throat cancers
  • Some cancers of the anus and genital areas

The HPV vaccine does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections

The leaflet https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/hpv-vaccine-vaccination-guide-leaflet includes more information about the vaccine.

It is important for you to discuss and complete the consent form with your child. You should complete the consent form as soon as possible. Please do this even if you don’t want your child to receive the vaccination. Please be aware that if we do not receive the completed consent form, each young person may be assessed on an individual basis and invited to self consent for the vaccination providing they can demonstrate an understanding of the vaccination due. This is in line with the Gillick Competency Framework.

Please complete the consent form below:
