At Bristol Brunel we believe that good quality homework is important to support learning that has taken place in class. Knowledge is the key to unlocking potential and independence over time.
Why is homework important?
The current KS3 homework policy is based on the ‘Learning Scientists’ of retrieval practice. This is up-to-date research that proves how effective retrieval practice helps with embedding knowledge and long-term memory. Additionally, research conducted by the Education Endowment Foundation in 2020 concluded that homework can result in five months’ additional progress.
Our aim is for every child to achieve more and maximise their learning in school so there is no option for your child to fall behind with homework. We have the highest expectations of what your child can achieve and with your support we can make exceptional things happen.
KS3 Homework
Students in KS3 (Y7 – Y9) at BBA will:
- Receive regular homework to complete as shown on the timetable
- Complete all work set on Show my homework this should take between 15 -20 per subject and try their best.
- In addition, students should be reading for pleasure every night and recording this weekly in their reading log and using TT Rockstar.
Students in KS4 (Y10 & Y11) at BBA will:
- Receive weekly homework by their class teacher, this is normally set in the double lesson and due in the following week.
- Complete all work set on Showmy homework. this should take around 1 hour per subject.
- Complete independent learning during the weekend to support current learning and used as revision of previous topics.
