At Bristol Brunel we believe that good quality homework is important to support learning that has taken place in class. Knowledge is the key to unlocking potential and independence over time.
Why is homework important?
The current KS3 homework policy is based on the ‘Learning Scientists’ of retrieval practice. This is up-to-date research that proves how effective retrieval practice helps with embedding knowledge and long-term memory. Additionally, research conducted by the Education Endowment Foundation in 2020 concluded that homework can result in five months’ additional progress.
Our aim is for every child to achieve more and maximise their learning in school so there is no option for your child to fall behind with homework. We have the highest expectations of what your child can achieve and with your support we can make exceptional things happen.
KS3 Homework
How to guides – Knowledge Organiser
Students KS3 (Y7-Y9) at BBA will:
- All homework is in the knowledge organiser booklet.
- Students write their answers to the set questions in the red exercise book provided.
- The front cover has completion dates and teachers will inform students of the specific lesson in which it will be checked.
- Students also complete TT Rockstars and will receive a log in.
- Reading is key to accessing our curriculum and students should read every day for 20 mins. Books can be borrowed during library lessons.
- ‘Student Portal’ lists homework which corresponds with the knowledge organiser booklet.
Students KS4 (Y10-Y11) at BBA will:
- All homework is set by departments on ‘Student Portal’.
- Homework deadlines will be communicated by class teachers and on ‘Student Portal’.
- Homework will be set weekly.
