Show Racism the Red Card
Dear Parent/Carer,
On Friday 17th October, we will be proudly observing Show Racism the Red Card Day an annual event at BBA dedicated to promoting race equality and raising awareness about racism. As part of this important initiative, we will be incorporating dedicated lessons into our curriculum to educate students on these issues. Show Racism the Red Card is a UK-based charity dedicated to combating racism through education. They provide workshops, resources, and support to schools, aiming to raise awareness about the impact of racism and promote inclusivity.
To mark this important occasion, we warmly invite all students and staff to wear a red top to school as a visible show of support for the Show Racism the Red Card campaign. Students are expected to continue wearing their standard school uniform for the lower half of their attire this includes trousers, skirts, or tailored shorts and appropriate school footwear. If opting to wear a red T-shirt or top, we kindly request that students refrain from wearing non-uniform jumpers of other colours. Should they feel cold, they are encouraged to wear their BBA jumper or blazer, or alternatively, a red jumper or hoodie in keeping with the theme. Students that arrive to the Academy inappropriately dressed, will be asked to go home and change into the correct uniform.
Our aim is to fill the Academy with a vibrant sea of red, symbolising unity and solidarity against racism. To support the charity, we ask students to contribute 50p, which will be donated directly to Show Racism the Red Card. Students will be able to hand in their donation on their arrival to school. We will also be selling Show Racism the Red Card wrist bands for £1, and they will be able able to purchase these as they arrive in the Academy.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

In addition to the themed lessons, we will be collapsing part of the curriculum to include a five-minute pop-up activity at the start of each lesson, further reinforcing the day’s message.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us foster an inclusive and respectful school community.
Yours sincerely,
Mark Saunders
