Statement from Principal regarding admission numbers from September 2024
Dear Families
As you will know we have been supporting the shortfall in secondary school places in Bristol, by increasing the number of students each year that we take into Year 7 . This is called a temporary breach of our Published Admission Number (PAN).
From September 2024, we will have 1305 students in the following structure:
Year 7 – 232 Students
Year 8 – 232 Students
Year 9 – 290 Students
Year 10 – 290 Students
Year 11 – 261 Students
The decision to breach PAN has been in place to support our local children to attend their local school. We have made the decision to cease breaching our PAN from September 2023 and to return to an intake of 232 students.
This decision has not been taken lightly. The Academy was originally built for around 1200 students and, whilst we have made changes to the building and our structures, the Academy can no longer support increased numbers and are unable to continue to grow each year. The key factors we have considered include the limitations of the building, the safe movement of students around the building, the individual support we pride ourselves on and the high-quality learning environment we have built our strong reputation upon. Going forward we intend to remain with our permanent PAN of 232 for all future year groups.
Please contact the Academy should you have any further questions.
Warm regards
Jen Cusack
Principal – BBA

Where the number of applications for admission is greater than the published admissions number, applications will be considered against the criteria set out in our Admissions Policy.
Parents will have the right of appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel if they are dissatisfied with an admission decision of the Academy. The Appeal Panel will be independent of the Academy. The arrangements for Appeals will be in line with the Code of Practice on School Admission Appeals published by the Department for Education and Skills as it applies to Foundation and Voluntary Aided schools.

Please do not use the online school admissions application form. This allows this group of children and young people to be prioritised.
Admission Appeals
Admissions appeals are organised through Bristol City Council and the Local Authority.
All communications for appeals need to go through Bristol City Council and the Local Authority. The Academy is not able to organise appeals.
Each year, there is a deadline for lodging appeals which allows those making an appeal at least 20 school days from the date of notification that their application was unsuccessful to prepare and lodge their written appeal.
We will include reasonable deadlines for:
- Those making an appeal to submit additional evidence
- Admission authorities to submit their evidence
- The clerk to send appeal papers to the panel and parties
- We will ensure that those making an appeal receive at least 10 school days’ notice of their appeal hearing
- Ensure that decision letters are sent within 5 school days’ of the hearing wherever possible
