Year 11 Exams and Important Dates

15th May 2023

Dear Year 11 Parent/Carer

The exam season is now upon us, and this letter contains some useful information to outline the support that has been put in place and will continue to be put in place, to ensure that your child feels prepared and motivated for their upcoming exams. These include:

  • Deliberate exam practice and focused revision during all lessons.
  • A targeted intervention session during tutor time with subject specialists.
  • Online revision resources and tailored revision packs provided by subject specialists.
  • Access to breakfast revision sessions and after school drop ins.
  • Scheduled revision sessions with their classroom teachers before exams.
  • Stress and anxiety techniques delivered during tutor time.
  • Ongoing pastoral support from the Year Team and all staff.

Exams are the best and fairest form of assessment. The Department for Education recognise the disruption the pandemic has caused and have therefore decided to keep two adjustments in Maths and Science exams to ensure fairness for students. For instance, students will receive formulae sheets in Maths and revised equation sheets in Combined Science and Physics.

If there is anything that you feel could affect your child’s ability to perform fully in their exams, please contact the Year Team and we will work alongside the Exams Officer to identify whether this will be accepted for special consideration.

Equipment

Students should provide their own stationery, which must be in a clear pencil case. Please ensure your child has a minimum of the following for EVERY exam: 2 Black Pens, 2 HB Pencils, Ruler (marked with millimetres), Pencil Sharpener and Rubber. For certain exams they may also need: a Compass, Protractor and Calculator. The exam office has some spare equipment but cannot guarantee availability of any item. Students cannot share any stationery during an exam. Further information can be found in the Exam expectations booklet: http://bristolbrunelacademy.clf.uk/wp-content/uploads/Exam-Expectations-Booklet-for-Students.pdf.”

Locker Keys

Please can we ask that locker keys are returned to the Academy reception after your child’s final exam. You will then receive your £5.00 deposit back (in cash).

Celebration Assembly

The Year 11 Leavers Assembly will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday 20th June from 2:30pm (students only). This will give students the opportunity to celebrate their time at the Academy, sign shirts and say their goodbyes to staff. Students will need to enter via the Duncombe Lane entrance.

Last day

The last day official day for Year 11 will be Friday 16th June. However, please be aware that not all exams will have finished. Students will still be expected to attend revision sessions for any outstanding exams that they have week commencing Monday 19th June. PROM

This will be at Leigh Court, Pill Road, Abbots Leigh, Bristol, BS8 3RA on Tuesday 4th July starting at 6:30pm and will finish at 10pm. There will be a DJ, BBQ food and a free soft drink on arrival. The Prom is a great opportunity for students to celebrate their journey through BBA and say goodbye to each other and staff. Students will be supervised at all times, by members of BBA staff.

Parents/Carers are responsible for making transport arrangements to and from the event. This will be of particular importance at the end of the event as we need to ensure that all students have left the venue safely.

If your child would like to attend Prom, the ticket contribution is £32.50 and can be paid via ParentPay or in cash at reception. A £10 deposit is required to secure their place by Wednesday 31st May. The full payment must be paid by Friday 9th June.

Results

GCSE results day is on Thursday 24th August 2023. More information, to outline the arrangements for the day will follow shortly. Exam results will be available to collect in the morning and for those who are unable to attend in person, results will be emailed in line with GDPR, to students BBA accounts later in the day.

If you have any concerns or questions please contact the Year 11 Team, [email protected] or telephone the Academy.

Kind regards
