Tutor Reading Programme

Dear Parents and Carers

As part of our whole school literacy provision we are pleased to announce the relaunch of Tutor Reading programme. We are delighted to have some new contemporary, exciting, novels that represent our students’ lives and should enable them to explore ideas that matter to them.

Reading is fundamental to accessing the curriculum and we know that exposure to different stories and the experience of having an adult read aloud to them, creates the strongest foundation for all students. All of the evidence that informs our literacy practice supports the importance of regular opportunities to read throughout the day.

Our tutors in Year 7, 8 and 9 will share one book and the tutor will read aloud to their students. This will happen twice a week and is part of our tutor programme.

Please ask your child about the book they are reading. Can they tell you about the main characters, the themes and the story? What do they enjoy about it? Has the book made them think differently about something?

We would welcome your feedback and ideas for future fantastic books for our KS3 children.
