Industrial Strike Action Wed 5th & Thurs 7th July

Dear Parents/Carers

Members of the National Education Union have voted for further industrial action which will impact BBA. The strikes – the result of a dispute between union members and Government – are scheduled for Wednesday 5th July and Friday 7th July.

Friday 7th July will not affect our students as it was already a designated INSET day for students and the Academy will be closed to all students.

On Wednesday 5th there will be disruption to our usual routines, and scheduled lessons will be unable to go ahead. As ever, student wellbeing remains our priority, and careful risk assessments will be carried out to assess which lessons and activities can safely continue. I can now share our preliminary plans for Wednesday 5th July.

At BBA the following will apply on Wednesday 5th July

The Academy will be open to Year 10 only. Year 10 exams will be running on this day. Students will receive a more detailed account of their provision, over the next few days.
The Academy will be closed to Years 7, 8, and 9 – and links to online learning will be communicated through Show My Homework.
In addition, a small number of students will be invited to attend, and we will communicate directly with these individual families.

If your child is entitled to Free School Meals, we will be providing a lunch bag, for collection, on Wednesday 5th July from 11am. In order for us to reduce waste and order the correct quantity, please can you call the Academy Reception (0117 3772700), by 9am this Friday 30th June, to confirm whether you require a lunch bag for your child.

We recognise and respect the right of our staff to take part in industrial action and, while I understand this situation may be frustrating, your continued support for the Academy at this time is appreciated.

I do hope this will allow you to plan ahead for any disruption. Should you have any further questions, do please contact the Academy.

Yours sincerely

Jen Cusack
Head of School
