Hands Free behaviour initiative
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing to bring to your attention a matter that has come to our notice at Bristol Brunel Academy. Recently, we have observed an increase in playfighting among students, particularly during social times. While we understand that students need to release energy and interact with their peers, playfighting poses a significant risk of injury and disruption.
To ensure the safety and well-being of all our students, we are introducing a new initiative called ‘Hands Free.’ This initiative aims to provide a clear and immediate response to any incidents of playfighting or unsafe behaviour during social times.
Here’s how ‘Hands Free’ works:
- If a member of staff observes playfighting or any unsafe behaviour, they will shout “Hands Free”.
- The first time will act as a warning, and the second time means your child will be sent to our safety net.
We believe that this approach will help reinforce the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment for everyone at the Academy. Your support in discussing this initiative with your child and emphasising the importance of adhering to it will be invaluable.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to create a safer school environment for all our students. If you have any questions or concerns about the ‘Hands Free’ initiative, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your continued support.
Best regards,
James Ferguson
