Academy Punctuality

8th November 2024

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you that this term we are having a big push on attendance, in particular punctuality to the Academy in the morning. Frequent lateness can add up to a considerable amount of lost learning time. While we understand that unforeseen circumstances can result in your child arriving late to the Academy, it is important to emphasise the impact repeated lateness can have on academic progress.

Punctuality is not only a crucial life skill, but also an essential part of creating a positive learning environment. When a student arrives late, they may miss key instruction, disrupt the learning of their peers and find it challenging to fully engage with the lessons already underway. This lost learning time accumulates and can affect their overall understanding and performance in class. Developing the habit of punctuality helps students build responsibility and prepare for the expectations they will face in future education, the workplace, and life.

Therefore, from Monday 11th November, we will be issuing a breaktime detention to all those students that arrive late in the morning. Students will be collected 5 minutes before the end of their period 2 lesson and escorted down to their detention. They will remain in detention for 15 minutes, leaving 5 minutes before the end of break. If your child refuses to attend the detention, they will spend time in the safety net.

A reminder that doors to the Academy open at 8:10am, with breakfast club available to all students. We expect all students to be sat in the tutor room at 8:35am. Any later than this and your child will be marked as late and issued with a breaktime detention.

We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing the importance of punctuality with your child. If you would like to discuss this matter further or need assistance in ensuring timely arrivals, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Kind regards
